Public Transport Concessions
South Australians on low or fixed incomes may be eligible to receive a concession of around 50% on public transport fares at all times. Seniors Card holders can travel free on public transport in the Adelaide metropolitan area during off peak periods and receive a concession of around 50% at all other times. The transport concession card may also be accepted by SA Country Bus services – please enquire with the relevant bus company when making a booking.
You may be eligible for public transport concessions if you:
- Have a Pensioner Concession Card, DVA Gold Card, Seniors Card or State Concession Card.
- Receive an eligible payment from Centrelink* and hold a Transport Concession Card.
- Have a full-time student card.
*Eligible Centrelink payments are: Newstart allowance, Sickness allowance, Widow allowance, Youth allowance, Partner allowance, Parenting Payment Partnered, Bereavement allowance, Special benefit, Exceptional Circumstances payments, Community Development Employment Project (CDEP), New Enterprise Incentive Scheme.
Seniors Card holders.
Seniors Card holders are entitled to travel free on trains, buses and trams in metropolitan Adelaide from 9.01am to 3.00pm on weekdays, and all day on weekends and public holidays. At all other times, Seniors Card holders are eligible for a concession of approximately 50% of the normal fare.
How to apply for public transport concessions:
For pensioners, Seniors Card holders and full-time student card holders:
Show your pensioner concession card, DVA Gold Card, student concession card or Seniors Card when travelling on public transport and purchasing tickets to receive the concession.
Centrelink beneficiaries:
You will need to obtain a Transport Concession Card, and show this when travelling on public transport and purchasing tickets to receive public transport concessions. The Transport Concession Card is valid for 6 months, after which time, if you are still receiving an eligible Centrelink payment, you will automatically receive a replacement card by mail.
